Monitor & Main

It's Day 1. It's Day 0.

It's the ever-essential warm-up, the practice run.

It's the set-everything-up-in-the-Campbell's-living-room-and-figure-out-what-cables-go-where-and-how-to-plug-things-into-the-wall-correctly.

We need enough cables and power and electricity, and enough Disney movies to last all of the hours that we'll be spending in Sugar Mama. Driving Sugar Mama. Loving Sugar Mama. (Sugar Mama is the red mini-van that will be moving us from city to city. We do love her, and she loves us.)

And don't worry. We have enough Disney movies. And CD's, and books (stored in the floorboards). If nothing else, we are going to be well-entertained for the drive, because we all know that's what really matters. Forget about the music. We aren't traveling for the music; we're traveling for the road.

“Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.” ― Jack Kerouac, On the Road

Quick shout-out to all the fathers who made this trip possible. Happy day to you, Dads; it's your day. Especially Grace's dad, who gave us (me) a much-needed mini-lesson on managing the monitors and main volume, raveling and unraveling the extension cords and getting things plugged and unplugged. Still don't know how all of these ends are gonna meet, but we'll figure it out on the way.
